A chat with Lucy Sutherland at the National Botanic Garden of Wales

Lucy talks to Noel about the youngest national botanic garden in the British Isles

Lucy is the Director of an unusually rural botanical garden. We talk to her about her career, her love of ‘big sky thinking’, and the garden - which features the world’s largest glasshouse; its first plants contributed by none other than Noel ! (Who’s doing some reminiscing here). After some troubled early years, the garden is now well-established, and is a prominent part of Welsh national life, with a strong education programme and a real sense of engagement with not just with the garden’s plants but the surrounding landscape - exceptionally this is a botanic garden in a heritage landscape.
