Long Barn was the first garden made by Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicolson. Rebecca and her husband have owned Long Barn since 2007. Here she talks about the history of the garden, and its role in their relationship - “gardening was the glue that held them together” she says.
Annie talks to Rebecca about taking on a historic garden and house, “an all-consuming job” she says “so I apprenticed myself to the gardener”. She talks about the history, gardening “alongside” Vita, reading and researching about her, and making changes - always trying to second-guess what she and Harold might have done, the joys of meeting fellow gardeners and sharing the garden both in-person and through instagram.
