Originally intended as part of our Thursday Garden Chat series, illustrated of course, things went pear-shaped on the technical front and so we recorded this as an audio track. It went surprisingly well, so here it is as a podcast, with a plant list below.
Claire was Head Gardener at Hestercombe, an important heritage garden in Somerset for years; responsible for managing an important Gertrude Jekyll garden and overseeing of mostly woodland garden.
This is one of our Desert Island Plants series, where guests are invited to talk about the 8 plants they would miss the most if stuck on a desert island. It is modelled on the long-running BBC Radio 4 programme, Desert Island Discs.
After listening to the podcast you’ll understand the devilish look on Claire’s face in the picture below!
Crepis rubra
Berkheya purpurea
Papaver rupifragum
Althaea cannabina
Rosa mutabilis
Lunaris rediviva ‘Chedglow’
Helleborus argutifolius
Echinacea ‘Geilin’ (Noel's intervention)
Coronilla valentina subsp. glauca ‘Variegata'
