Michael quizzes Noel about his move from the damp and cool climate of south-west England to Portugal’s Mediterranean one and how naturalistic planting might be adapted. They talk about the challenges of hot, dry summers, unpredictable rainfall, and winter frosts, and the need to accept summer dormancy and bare ground as intentional features. As usual with these two, the dialogue is enthusiastic, sparky but firmly rooted in practical realities.
